I am delighted to announce that two schools in Eastwood, Springbank Academy and Lawrence View Primary School, will be rolling out free breakfast clubs from September. I’ve been working hard with the Labour government to get Best Start free breakfast clubs into Broxtowe’s schools and I’m really pleased to be delivering two for Eastwood.
This is fantastic news for local families and another important step in ensuring that every child gets the best possible start to their school day. These schools will join more than 2,700 schools across the country offering free breakfast clubs from September. In Broxtowe, Springbank Academy and Lawrence View Primary School will join William Lilley Infant and Nursery School in Stapleford and Sunnyside Spencer Academy in Beeston, where free breakfast clubs are already making a real difference to children and families.
At a time when the cost of living remains at the forefront of many families’ minds, these breakfast clubs are a lifeline. Not only do they ensure that children arrive at school fed, settled and ready to learn, but they also provide valuable childcare support for parents, saving families up to £450 a year.
We know that children learn best when they are ready to learn. A healthy breakfast and a positive start to the day can have a significant impact on attendance, concentration and wellbeing. Breakfast clubs help create that opportunity for every child, regardless of their background.
This investment is part of a wider package of measures that Labour is delivering to support families and tackle the cost of living. From September, schools in Broxtowe will be subject to a new legal limit on branded school uniform items. We are also extending free school meals to every household receiving Universal Credit.
Every child deserves the best start in life, and every parent deserves support with the rising costs of raising a family. From free breakfast clubs and school meals to childcare and lower uniform costs, Labour is delivering practical support that will make a real difference to families in Eastwood.
