Happy National Apprenticeship Week! I had a fantastic visit to Caunton Engineering in Moorgreen. It was great to look round their newly refurbished Training Academy, meet some of their engineering apprentices and talk about their training and career journeys.
Caunton Engineering fabricate, paint and erect structural steelwork for the construction industry, producing about 40,000 tonnes of fabricated steel each year for construction projects across the country.
Caunton Academy provides both non-degree and degree apprenticeships in engineering and former apprentices now make up about a quarter of their workforce. It is brilliant to see a local company supporting young people into high quality careers.
I am a huge supporter of apprenticeships and I’m really pleased that the Government is backing apprenticeships with a new target to get two-thirds of young people into higher-level learning or apprenticeships.
