What do I do in Parliament?
Ask Questions of the Government
Asking a parliamentary question about an issue may secure information or a commitment from the government and guarantees that the minister’s reply is put on the record. Questions can be asked by an MP in the chamber, or in writing.
Speak in Debates
In debates I can raise constituent's concerns, share your stories and argue for your viewpoint. The debates in the House of Commons include Government legislation, private members bills, Westminster hall debates and backbench business debates.
Meetings with Ministers
I meet with Government Ministers to raise constituent concerns when a face-to-face meeting is more appropriate than asking a question in the House of Commons.

Bill Committees
Public Bill Committees examine each Bill line by line. Once a committee has finished looking at a Bill, it reports its conclusions and any amendments made to the Commons, where Members debate the Bill further. I have sat on Bill Committees for the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill (also known as the Assisted Dying Bill) and the Armed Forces Commissioner Bill

I meet with constituents or school groups who come to visit Parliament for a tour or to watch Prime Minister Questions.

Environment, Food, Rural Affairs Select Committee
Select committees run inquiries on specific topics. The outcomes of these inquiries are public and many require a response from the government. Select committees also carry out their work through correspondence, by engaging with the public through events and surveys, holding round-table discussions and undertaking visits. Select committees are a very important part of the way Parliament scrutinises the work of the Government The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee (EFRA) is a group of 11 MPs appointed by the House of Commons to examine the work and policy of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and its associated public bodies.
