I am thrilled to announce I have secured funding for a Best Start Family Hub in Eastwood.
This will bring vital services including SEND support, help with nutrition, early development, and family support, that families in Eastwood have told me they need, all in one place.
When I worked in the NHS, I saw firsthand how absolutely vital the support provided by Sure Start centres were for so many families.
I’ve also heard from so many parents across Broxtowe, how utterly devastating the loss of these services was when the Conservatives came to power. Their policy of austerity caused lasting damage to our public services and left thousands of parents to navigate the challenges of parenthood without the support they needed.
This Best Start hub will bring the services that families want including health visitors, parenting advice, feeding support, SEND expertise and help with the cost of living, in one place, and for free.
Families will be able to access preventative and universal health services, help with children’s learning and development at home, and early support for children with additional needs, with a Best Start Inclusion Practitioner.
This Best Start Hub will build on the support that the Labour Government is already providing for families in Eastwood. This includes the new Best Start school-based nurseries at Eastwood schools, Florence Nightingale Academy and Springbank Academy. Support with the cost of living through 30 hours of government-funded childcare, which has halved childcare costs and is saving parents £8,000 on average, and the cap on branded items for school uniforms, saving parents up to £50 on the back-to-school shop.
This is what it means for Eastwood to have a Labour MP, working with a Labour Government, to rebuild our public services and deliver real change for Eastwood.
