Broxtowe MP slams “serious failings” in social housing by Broxtowe Borough Council.

  • Broxtowe Borough Council found to have serious failings in delivering consumer standards in social housing.
  • The Regulator for Social Housing found Broxtowe Borough Council had more than 3,000 overdue fire remedial actions
  • Juliet Campbell MP says “Broxtowe’s council tenants deserve far better than this.”

The Broxtowe Alliance led Broxtowe Borough Council has failed to meet the outcomes in the consumer standards and has been given a C3 grading today (Wednesday 14 January) from the Regulator of Social Housing.

The Regulator for Social Housing states:

“From the evidence and assurance gained during the inspection, we have concluded that there are serious failings in Broxtowe BC delivering the outcomes of the consumer standards and significant improvement is needed, specifically in relation to outcomes in our Safety and Quality Standard and Transparency, Influence and Accountability Standard.”

During an inspection of Broxtowe Borough Council, RSH found:

  • More than 3,000 overdue fire remedial actions.
  • A lack of accurate and up to date information on tenants’ homes, including potential hazards.
  • A lack of understanding of the diverse needs of all its tenants.
  • Improvements were needed in its engagement with tenants.

Broxtowe MP Juliet Campbell said:

“I am shocked by the Regulator of Social Housing findings that Broxtowe Borough Council have serious failings in delivering consumer standards in their social housing.

“It is appalling that Broxtowe Borough Council was found to have more than 3,000 overdue fire remedial actions. Broxtowe’s council tenants deserve far better than this.”

“I have spoken to many Broxtowe constituents with complaints about the condition of council housing, a lack of communication from the Council with council tenants and a persistent failure to address complaints about ASB.”

“Broxtowe Borough Council must take urgent action to address the serious failings in their delivery of council housing.”
