RSVP: SEND Roundtable – 10th April 2026
So many families of children with SEND have told me that they have really struggled to get the support they need. I’ve heard from you and from others about the difficulties you’ve faced and the feeling so many people share, that they have been set up to fail by a system that – to put it bluntly – is in crisis.
This Labour government has set out its plans to improve the system, ensuring children with SEND are no longer sidelined but included.
These plans include:
- Investing £3.7 billion to create specialist, calm learning spaces in mainstream schools, equipped with facilities to support children with special educational needs and disabilities, as well as more specialist places across early years, schools and colleges.
- Every child who needs extra support will have a personal plan, that sets out the extra help they’ll get to succeed, matched against high national standards.
- In every classroom teachers will be trained to meet the needs of children with SEND, based on the latest evidence, and backed by £200 million of investment.
- Bringing back services that support mainstream schools, with £1.8bn over the next three years, to put Experts at Hand into schools – educational psychologists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and much more.
We are now consulting on these plans – and I want your help ensure we get this right. It’s been great to get views from families in Broxtowe to help shape these reforms, and now as your local MP, I want to champion your voice and feed back your views on the new system to Ministers. At this roundtable, I want us to focus on building a system where every child can achieve and thrive.
Afterwards, I’ll collate what we’ve discussed and share that directly with the Department for Education as part of the consultation, ensuring that you will be heard as plans are drawn up.
