I am delighted to announce that more money will be available for local services in Broxtowe.
I have been working hard to push the Government to provide more funding for local services in Broxtowe, and I am so pleased that Nottinghamshire County Council will get a £234 million cash injection for essential services – a 30% increase in the Council’s spending power over this Parliament.
After 14 years of Tory austerity, Labour is putting money back into our local services. Under the Tories, local authorities were starved of investment which put immense pressure on councils up and down the country and caused real damage to local services in Broxtowe.
This £234 million cash injection for Nottinghamshire will make a real difference to the everyday lives of people in Broxtowe by boosting the services we all rely on. It means more money for libraries, youth services, roads, clean streets, and community hubs.
On top of that, Broxtowe Borough Council will get an extra £1.1 million to its core spending power over this Parliament. This is a huge shift from the Tory settlement, when Broxtowe saw a decrease of £2.3 million!
The money is part of the first multi-year funding settlement in over a decade, giving councils three years of financial certainty so they can plan ahead rather than firefight year to year.
This is a turning point for the way local government is funded, the outdated system that saw some councils build up savings while others faced financial collapse has been replaced. Instead, places are now being funded using an evidence-based system that properly recognises local circumstances and the true costs of providing services in deprived communities.
I am so glad to see that this the Labour Government is reversing Tory decline and investing in Britain’s renewal and I will fight to ensure Broxtowe feels the benefit.
